Apple (AAPL) on Wednesday will unveil a new MacBook Air with an 11.6-inch screen, according to Lazard Capital analyst Danile Amir. He says sources believe the new model will only come with a solid-state drive, with no HDD option like in the 13.3-inch version of the slim notebook.
Apple is holding a Mac-related product event in Cupertino on Wednesday morning. In addition to hardware announcements, the company has said it will provide a look at the next version of its OS X operating system software.
Amir also said that SanDisk (SNDK) and Samsung will provide SSDs for the product, with 64-128 GB of storage, with a cost to Apple of $100-$200. He thinks SanDisk could sell 700,000-900,000 units to Apple in 2011, for incremental revenue of $70 million to $90 million.
The Lazard analyst adds that the apparent Apple design win could be the “beginning of a longer-term partnership” between Apple and SanDisk.
This morning:
- AAPL is up $2.41, or 0.8%, to $317.15.
- SNDK is up 92 cents, or 2.4%, to $40.13.
