New Hire Roundup: Bowen Is Acting Chair at SIPC; Pologe Goes to Genworth

This week in new hires, LPL Financial named Joan Khoury managing director and chief marketing officer; Sharon Bowen succeeded Orlan Johnson to become acting chair at SIPC; Genworth welcomed David Pologe; and David Ford joined Securities America.

Also, JHS Capital Advisors added Diane Spearin and Woody Mason and KPMG welcomed Budzyna and Holmes to its alternative investments practice.

 

SIPC Announces New Acting Chair of Board of Directors

The Securities Investor Protection Corp. which maintains a special reserve fund mandated by Congress to protect the customers of insolvent brokerage firms, announced Monday the withdrawal of Chairman Orlan Johnson from its board of directors. His term expired in December.

He will be succeeded by Sharon Bowen, previously vice chair of the SIPC board, who will serve as acting chair.

Genworth Financial Wealth Management Hires David Pologe

Genworth Financial Wealth Management, a subsidiary of Genworth Financial, announced Tuesday that it has hired former UBS executive David Pologe as strategic accounts director, focused on institutional clients. Reporting to Dan O’Toole, senior vice president and national sales director, Pologe will focus on expanding relationships with independent broker/dealers that already work with GFWM, and increasing outreach to additional firms. He will also lead efforts to support GFWM’s broker/dealer clients.

Pologe brings more than 20 years of investment and advisory experience in a variety of organizations, including UBS and First Albany Corp. At UBS, he advanced through a range of sales and consulting positions to become executive director, global asset management.

Ford Joins Securities America

Securities America Inc. announced Tuesday that financial advisor David Ford has become a registered representative with the firm. Located in Spooner, Wis., Ford, along with his licensed associate Lynn McDowell, office manager Rita Wuebben and staff, has more than $800,000 in annual revenue and $70 million in assets under management. Ford officially began business with Securities America Feb. 23.

He joined the financial services industry in 1992 at American Express, and in 1997 moved to Investment Centers of America.

JHS Welcomes Spearin and Mason

JHS Capital Advisors announced Monday that Diane Spearin and Woody Mason have joined the firm. They will serve clients in South Florida.

Most recently, Spearin, a 24-year veteran of the financial services industry, served as director of retirement services at Stonegate Wealth Management LLC in Tampa and as chief financial officer, controller and office manager of Waxwing Advisors LLC in Treasure Island, Fla. Her practice focuses on serving individual and corporate retirement plan clients, who benefit from her experiences working with nonqualified retirement plans, executive insurance packages and qualified retirement plans such as 401(k), 403(b) and 457 plans.

Mason, who has worked in the financial services sector for 17 years, specializes in advising retirees and those about to retire. He was most recently with Allied Beacon Partners in Bradenton, Fla. Earlier, he worked for American Express Financial Advisors, American Investment Services and Waterford Investor Services.

Budzyna and Holmes Join KPMG’s Alternative Investments Practice

KPMG LLP announced Monday that it has named John Budzyna and Maurice Holmes to key posts. Budzyna, a spokesman for the alternative investments industry, has been named KPMG’s national leader, market development for alternative investments. Holmes, who has extensive experience advising hedge funds and service providers to the hedge fund industry, has been named managing director, market development for alternative investments.

Budzyna served most recently as CEO of Cutting Hedge Consulting Co. LLC, an advisory firm to the hedge fund industry, and also serves as the chairman of the board of Hedge Funds Care, one of the leading charitable organizations supported by the hedge fund community. He began his career at Arthur Andersen, where he helped create and led the firm’s hedge fund practice. He previously served as managing director and global head of hedge fund consulting at Deutsche Bank’s global prime finance group and was CEO of Olympia Capital in the hedge fund administration business. He also had served as a leader in Ernst & Young’s hedge fund practice.

Holmes most recently served as a director in the Credit Suisse Investment Banking Division, where he oversaw prime services sales for emerging markets, and served as global leader of its hedge fund consulting services. Previously, he was an executive director in equity financing services at Morgan Stanley, where he managed the consulting services group. In addition, he has served in executive leadership roles at JP Morgan and Lazard Freres & Co.
