Internet research outfit comScore (SCOR) today reported Apple‘s (AAPL) iPhone gained 3.9 percentage points of smartphone share in the U.S. in the month of February, rising to 38.9% from 35% in November of last year, as U.S. smartphone ownership rose 8%, to 133.7 million people, 57% of the total mobile market in the U.S.
Samsung Electronics (005930KS) came in at second place, up a point at 21.3% over the same three-month period measured.
HTC (2498TW), the Motorola unit of Google (GOOG), and LG were third, fourth and fifth in the month.
By individual operating system platform, Google’s Android had 51.7% of the market in February, down 2 points. Apple’s iOS operating system rose 3.9 points and was the same 39% of total users. BlackBerry (BBRY) saw its eponymous platform fall 1.9 points, to 5.4%, Microsoft‘s (MSFT) Windows Phone was up two-tenths of a point, at 3.2%, and Nokia‘s (NOK) legacy Symbian OS was flat in fifth place with half a percent of share.
