Shares of Groupon (GRPN) rallied after it announced the launch of a mobile payment service. Shares were up 41 cents, or 8.6%, to $5.10.

Inserted in the Google headlines, however, is the religious and political controversy that just won’t go away. Reuters reported last week that the White House had requested the same thing but was rebuffed.
Today, the French government said it is shuttering offices and schools around the world Friday. A French cartoonist published controversial images Wednesday of Mohammad, even as protests about the privately-funded reel continue.
