Boeing Earnings Preview: Guidance Will be Crucial

Boeing (BA) releases its fourth quarter earnings results on Wednesday morning, and analysts are expecting the company to report $1.01 in EPS. Investors will likely focus closely on the company’s earnings guidance and its expectations for deliveries of the 747-8 and the 787.

In 2011, Boeing had expected to ship 15 to 20 787 and 747-8′s, but fell short of that goal. Some analysts expect the company to be able to considerably ramp up production, however.

“Boeing should deliver between 12 and 15 aircraft in 1Q 12. We see BA having 3 deliveries in January, and 5 for both February and March,” wrote Wedbush analyst Kenneth Herbert. “We model in 2012 and 2013 787 deliveries of 52 and 88, respectively.”

Overall, the company should see a big boost in commercial aircraft sales.

“We believe BA will provide an initial EPS guidance range of $4.50-$4.70. We believe total 2012 commercial deliveries guidance will be in the range of 570-580 aircraft. This represents a 21% increase over the 477 in 2011,” Herbert wrote.

But defense results could be mixed, some analysts noted.

“Boeing recently signed a purchase agreement worth an estimated $29 billion for F-15s from Saudi Arabia. The cloudy outlook on the U.S. Defense front will hopefully be offset by increased foreign military sales,” wrote DA Davidson analyst J.B. Groh.
